RMTS: Rheumatoid Arthritis Monitoring Technology System

A fully integrated wearable glove system for continuous rheumatoid arthritis monitoring, combining custom hardware, a mobile application, a doctor dashboard, and AI-assisted reporting, with an embedded vibration-based relief mechanism for flare-ups.

RMTS: Rheumatoid Arthritis Monitoring Technology System
About
RMTS was built as an end-to-end health monitoring system centered around a wearable smart glove. The glove integrates motion and biomedical sensors to track hand movement, stiffness, and condition progression related to rheumatoid arthritis. Data is transmitted via Bluetooth Low Energy to a Flutter mobile application, where patients can view their condition in real time. A vibration-based relief system embedded inside the glove activates during detected flare-ups to help reduce discomfort. On the clinical side, a dedicated web platform allows doctors to review patient history, monitor trends, manage appointments, and receive AI-generated medical reports based on collected sensor data. The project was validated nationally after ranking 8th place at Technofest, competing against over 13,000 projects in the Health Technologies category.
The Challenge

Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms fluctuate daily and are difficult to measure objectively outside clinical visits. Patients lack continuous monitoring tools, and doctors rely heavily on subjective descriptions. The challenge was to design a wearable system capable of tracking hand movement and condition changes accurately while also providing immediate relief during flare-ups.

Journey
Phase 1

Concept & Problem Identification

The project started as an idea: finding a way to help rheumatoid arthritis patients stay connected with their doctors without needing constant in-person visits.

Phase 2

Hardware Exploration & Sensor Research

Extensive research to identify which sensors could realistically track rheumatoid arthritis indicators — motion sensors, flex sensors, PPG, pressure sensors, and vibration motors.

Phase 3

Wearable Glove Engineering

All selected sensors were integrated into a wearable glove form factor with a vibration-based relief system for active flare-up relief.

Phase 4

Mobile Application & Accessibility Design

A Flutter mobile application with automatic glove detection and connection, designed for users with joint mobility limitations.

Phase 5

Calibration & Data Accuracy

Per-patient calibration logic for every sensor to ensure readings were meaningful and medically useful.

Phase 6

Doctor Dashboard & AI Reporting

Web dashboard for doctors to manage patients, review vitals, monitor trends, and generate AI-assisted reports.

Phase 7

Validation & Competition

The fully integrated system achieved 8th place at Technofest out of 13,000+ projects in the Health Technologies category.

Impact

8th place winner at Technofest
